Strategic goals

Informing the public and education

The strategic goals of The Anne Frank House are inspired by our mission. This mission basically consists of two closely related main tasks: informing the public, and education.

Informing the public

Our first task is to increase global awareness of Anne Frank’s life story. We use the museum, our exhibitions, and (online) publications to do so.

Education

Our second task is education. We encourage young people to think about the dangers of antisemitism, racism, and discrimination, and about the significance of freedom, equal rights, and democracy. We develop educational activities and products that can be applied by our organisation as well as others.

Peer education is an important element of our educational programmes. In peer education, young people share the story of Anne Frank with other young people. This increases their involvement.

Strategic goals

Based on the organisation’s mission statement, we have laid down the following strategic goals for the period 2024-2027:

Priorities

The following three priorities are key:

  • Our activities are based on the life story of Anne Frank.
  • We place the dangers of antisemitism, racism and discrimination within the perspective of freedom, equal rights, democracy and the rule of law. These are not only important values for us in themselves, they are also preconditions for combating antisemitism, racism and discrimination.
  • The legacy of Anne Frank has a global reach. With a view to our reach, impact and effectiveness, we weigh up which activities we aim to carry out in which countries.
Strategic focus points

With four substantive focal points we make choices within the framework of our mission with which we aim to increase our impact and reach and improve our effectiveness. The fifth focus point concerns the Anne Frank House’s sources of income. This is a precondition for securing our activities within the framework of our mission.

  1. The life and work of Anne Frank and the history of her time.
  2. Strengthening our reach, impact and engagement among young people as the main target group.
  3. The proper functioning of the democratic rule of law in a polarised environment as an educational focal point.
  4. A continued focus on Holocaust education and combating antisemitism and discrimination.
  5. Diversifying our revenue sources to reduce our dependence on income from the museum.
